Since then, there has been an enormous amount of chatter within the Disney online community regarding Animal Kingdom’s new initiative and I thought that this would be an opportune time to share a Disney blog site link that I regularly read that recently provided a first hand review of this new dining opportunity. The writers of this blog are Orlando based, work within the Disney travel industry and can be relied upon for accurate, non biased reviews of what is happening within the parks.

Formerly known as the Disney Dining Experience (DDE), the Tables in Wonderland membership still gives Florida residents and Annual and Seasonal Passholders awesome dining discounts and benefits. Your Tables in Wonderland card can be used at select Disney World restaurants to receive a 20 percent discount on all food and beverage, including alcohol for your entire party, up to 10 guests.

Florida residents can purchase the Tables in Wonderland membership for $100 per year and Passholders can purchase membership for $75 per year. An additional card for a spouse can be purchased for an additional $50 per year. However, if you are planning on having a majority of your meals at the Walt Disney World Resorts with your spouse, there is no need to purchase a second card.

This is a membership that will pay for itself in just a few meals at a Disney restaurant. For example, a family of four’s average sit down meal can run up to $150. With your Tables in Wonderland card your savings would be $30, paying for the card in anywhere from three to four meals. As a Florida resident or Passholder, I am sure that you have more than four meals at the Walt Disney World Resorts within a year’s time.

With dozens of championship golf courses, Central Florida has evolved into a true golfer’s paradise. Whether you are a beginner who wants to take lessons at one of the area’s renowned golf academies or a more experienced golfer who seeks new challenges, you will find a golf course in the Orlando area to meet your specific needs. 

 
Walt Disney World Resort itself boasts five championship golf courses: Osprey Ridge, Palm, Magnolia, Eagle Pines and Lake Buena Vista. Designed by legendary architect Tom Fazio, Osprey Ridge is arguably the most difficult course at Disney World. The Palm course has been rated 4 stars by Golf Digest. The Magnolia course is known for the abundance of beautiful Magnolias that line the fairways. Eagle Pines is a par-72, 18-hole course designed by Pete Dye. Opened in 1971, the par-72 Lake Buena Vista course features 6,819 yards of golf. Disney World also offers the nine-hole, par-36 Oak Trail golf course.

Plenty of championship-caliber golf courses lie just minutes from Walt Disney World Resort. For instance, the award-winning MetroWest Golf Club was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and offers a wide range of challenges, including numerous bunkers and plentiful water hazards, as well as expansive fairways.Celebration Golf Club, which lies just 5 minutes from Disney World, was also designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., along with his son Robert Trent Jones Jr. ChampionsGate Golf Resort boasts 36 holes of championship golf and is also home to the world-renowned David Leadbetter Golf Academy. Designed by Ron Garl and Howard Swan, the par-73 Eagle Creek Golf Club boasts five par 5 holes. Two area courses, Grand Cypress Golf Club and The Golden Bear Club at Keene’s Pointe, were both designed by “The Golden Bear” himself, Jack Nicklaus. The Travelears Celebrates an Important Milestone

 

As Disney is encouraging its guests to celebrate special occasions this year, we wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of our loyal Podcast fans and website visitors, for helping the Travelears celebrate our 10,000^th hit on our website this morning at 11.35am.

 

The website was launched only 50 days ago, and after a slow beginning, this milestone snuck up on us really quickly.

 

We have been overwhelmed with the support, positive feedback and the assistance that we have received from so many people over the past seven weeks, and we are really pleased that we are offering a valuable service to the online Disney and Theme Park Communities.

 

We would also like to thank our loyal fans for their patience over the past few days as our web site succumbed to the massive number of hits that we were receiving. Believe it or not, you can live it up at Walt Disney World Resort in 2009 – whether you plan on visiting Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios or Disney’s Animal Kingdom – without making a huge dent in your wallet. By planning ahead, seeking out the best online deals and following the money-saving tips listed below, you can enjoy significant savings on your Walt Disney World Resort vacation getaway – without sacrificing any of your family’s comfort or enjoyment.

1. Take advantage of Disney’s “Celebration Vacations” promotion and enjoy free entrance to Walt Disney World Resort on your birthday in 2009. To receive free admission to one of the theme parks at Disney World, just bring valid ID, including proof of birthdate.
2. If possible, plan your Walt Disney World Resort trip during the off-season and you will usually discover significantly lower airfares and hotel/resort rates.

3. If you are staying at a Disney World resort, take advantage of complimentary transportation to all Walt Disney World theme parks, water parks and Downtown Disney Area.

4. Shop at area factory outlet stores such as Orlando Premium Outlets, which sells Disney merchandise at significantly lower prices than you will find at stores within the Disney World theme parks.

5. Check out some of the free things to do at Disney World such as strolling around Disney’s Boardwalk and Downtown Disney Area, or hiking through the Disney Wilderness Preserve.

13. If you are an active or retired member of the U.S. military, you may obtain one complimentary 5-day “Disney’s Armed Forces Salute” ticket with Park Hopper and Water Park Fun & More options. 14. Instead of spending a fortune at a Disney character breakfast, take your kids to Town Square at Main Street, U.S.A. in Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park for autograph and photo opportunities with Disney characters.

15. Choose the appropriate Disney World ticket deal based on your family’s length of stay in Orlando and remember not to overdo things – you will want to schedule time for rest and relaxation during your trip.

16. If you choose to eat at the Disney World theme parks, try to make lunch your big meal of the day when prices are considerably lower than for dinner (especially at Epcot’s World Showcase).

17. Whenever you leave one of Disney World’s theme parks, make sure to get your hand stamped. Then after you rest awhile and enjoy a cheaper dinner off site, you can head back to the park after the crowds have thinned out.

18. You may want to schedule your Walt Disney World vacation around one of Disney’s highly acclaimed annual events and festivals, many of which are included with the price of admission such as the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival, Star Wars Weekends, Epcot International Food & Wine Festival,Festival of the Seasons, Festival of the Masters and Holidays Around the World.

19. Carry your own water bottle into the Disney theme park and you can fill it up at any of the abundant water fountains throughout the day.

20. Establish a budget for Disney World souvenirs and stick to your budget (no matter how many cool gifts you see as you stroll through Epcot’s World Showcase!).

21. If you are an AAA or AARP member, take advantage of any special rates or discounts that are available during your Disney World vacation.

22. Check to see if your hotel and motel features an onsite restaurant that offers a “Kids Eat Free” deal (one child eats free per paying adult).

23. Purchase such necessities as film and sunscreen before you arrive at Disney World, since prices at the theme parks are more expensive for such items.

24. If you are staying at one of the Disney resorts, take advantage of Disney’s Magical Express, which provides complimentary shuttle service to and from the Orlando International Airport (reservations are required for Disney’s Magical Express).

25. If possible, try to avoid Disney World during holiday weekends and Spring Break when prices are higher and the theme parks are most crowded.

As dawn breaks on the Disney parks, we welcome all of you to the first official post of the Travelears Disney travel blog.

 

We have learnt a lot from our first 26 shows (Yes, we are now officially six month’s old), and over the past two months the crew have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to further enhance the show and provide additional value to our listeners and web visitors.

As Walt Disney famously said, “I believe in being an innovator”, and in these times it is more important than ever to deliver timely, relevant and entertaining content to your podcast subscribers and site visitors, as many of us are becoming so time poor and oversaturated with unreverent information and content.

So that was the main objective of the Travelears crew over the past 8 weeks; to develop a podcast, web site and blog that would be a “one stop shop” for the Disney traveller wanting quality information about enjoying the Disney parks.

As part of the process, the Travelears decided to focus on what we were good at. We all agreed that there were already a number of people out there within the online Disney community that were expert Disney historians, Disney trivia experts, Disney music experts, Disney time and motion specialists and in depth Disney reporters that already had quality podcasts, websites and blogs.

These people are fantastic at what they do, and duplicating this effort would neither assist the needs of the online Disney community, nor provide any real help to the people that find Disney so overwhelming, that planning their visits to a Disney park often becomes a very stressful and time consuming ordeal.

 

Our listeners and site visitors have told us that they want and need a central repository of Disney information and one on one assistance with their planning trip planning needs.

So with our vision clearly outlined, the team developed the following objectives for the Travelears:

1) The provision of a “Question and Answer” service for pending travellers to the Disney Parks.

2) The provision of regular overviews of Disney attractions, shows, dining, accommodation and events at each of the Disney parks with a regular focus on Walt Disney World and Disneyland

3) The provision of up to date travel information on issues affecting travel to the parks including predicted crowds, attraction closures and rehabs and special events.

4) The provision of breaking Disney news via a dedicated news team searching out relevant information for travellers visiting the Disney parks.

5) Through partnering with one of the United States premier Disney travel agencies, we will provide our listeners and site visitor’s access to the latest travel discounts, package deals and travel advice for domestic and international travellers.

6) Recommendations for other sources of Disney information including Disney Podcasts, Disney Newsletters, Disney Web Sites, Disney Blogs, Disney DVD’s and Disney Books.

To make this happen, we quickly realised that we had to expand the existing crew to ensure that we could provide quality Disney content on a consistent basis. We wanted people that loved Disney, understood the importance of the online Disney community and had a burning passion to assist fellow Disney travellers to enjoy their vacations and find the best Disney discounts and information.
