It’s hard to believe that it’s been seven years since Adventures by Disney first launched with the grand idea of creating family-friendly adventures to exotic destinations around the world. Starting with just a few trips, we set out to put the “fun” back into your family vacation and boy did we succeed. Today, we offer 22 breathtaking trips across six continents, each specially designed with exciting and unique activities that are sure to please every member of your family. So for our 2012 lineup, it brings me great pleasure to announce the addition of two new amazing – and often requested – destinations, as well as the addition of a little “extra spice” on some of our current adventures.

This time we’re off to Greece, considered by many to be the birthplace of western civilization. On your “Greek Odyssey” adventure, we’ll take you on a magical journey through Athens, Santorini and Crete. In the pale yellow light of the Greco moon, mythology comes to life through the art of storytelling on the steps of the Parthenon in Athens. Sporting games will ignite the thrill of victory at Panathinaiko Stadium, birthplace of the modern Olympics, and on the volcanic island of Santorini, the rumble of excitement will fill the air as kids enjoy stomping grapes while adults take pleasure in Volcan wine tasting. Then set sail on the crystal blue waters of the Aegean Sea on your way to the mountain villages of Crete for a lesson in Tsatziki cheese making and classic Greek dancing.

Our next new destination will be nothing short of picture-perfect as we take you to Northern France on our “Esprit de France” adventure. You’ll walk in the footsteps of Leonardo da Vinci as you visit Château du Clos Lucé, his last known home, and Monet’s Gardens will inspire the artist in you as you create your very own works of art. Normandy awaits as you voyage to the rocky tidal island of Mont Saint-Michel and uncover the mysteries of the fortress-like monastery nestled high above. Emotions will run high as you visit the American Cemetery in Omaha Beach, honoring our fallen heroes during the D-Day invasion in 1944. Entice your taste buds with a lesson in brandy making on the Normandy Cider Route, bask in the beauty of the French countryside and take a leisurely bike ride on the grounds of the majestic Château de Chambord.

But wait! The adventures don’t end there, because our “Pyramids, Pharaohs & Ancient Treasures” adventure to Egypt makes a grand return that can only be described as “fit for a king.” This destination is bound to captivate the archeologist in all of us.

We’ve also enhanced some of our current trips like our “Discovery Down Under” trip to Australia, which now includes a visit to the unforgettable island of Tasmania, home to the mysterious Tasmanian Devil. And if discovery is your game, then you’ll be excited to hear that we’ve added yet another way to explore the amazing Galapagos Islands. “Grandiosos Galapagos” is a seven day cruise on board the Galapagos Explorer II that will take you on a journey to the place that time forgot. Civilization more your cup of tea? Then you’ll be thrilled to learn that we’ve added a trip to the British countryside. On our “Cities of Knights and Lights” adventure to London and Paris you’ll enjoy a privately-guided tour of Windsor Castle and finally get a taste of what royalty is all about.

Adventures by Disney, provider of high-end family travel experiences, was awarded Best Travel Website by the InternetAdvertising Competition (IAC) Awards. The IAC Awards, produced by the Web Marketing Association, recognize excellence in online advertising and those responsible for the best in Internet marketing. The Best Travel Website award is given to travel industry sites that exemplify creativity, innovation, design, memorability and impact. The new website was created by a dedicated Adventures by Disney web team at Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Online.

“We are honored that the Web Marketing Association awarded an IAC ‘BestTravel Website’ Award to Adventures by Disney,” said Don Gross, Vice President, Adventures by Disney. “With our 2009 re-design, we sought to combine a user-friendly format with highly informative content, including features to better assist families planning vacations. We continue to raise the bar by enhancing our creativity with the latest technology.”

Using a newly created Trip Selector tool, the new website clearly guides travelers through destinations across six continents to make navigating our website as easy as Adventures by Disney makes navigating the world. New featured videos capture breathtaking footage from actual vacations and for the youngest travelers, online activities such as itinerary specific games, trivia, photos and coloring maps help familiarize them with each destination, while also teaching them about the world. Many of the website enhancements support Adventures by Disney’s environmentally conscious focus. The site offers Guests the
opportunity to mitigate the carbon footprints created by their air travel to and from each destination. Travelers can also download the enhanced trip itineraries or print select pages of the E-brochure.  Phase 2.0 of the redesign will coincide with the launch of Adventures by Disney’s 2010 season in August 2009.

As dawn breaks on the Disney parks, we welcome all of you to the first official post of the Travelears Disney travel blog.

 

We have learnt a lot from our first 26 shows (Yes, we are now officially six month’s old), and over the past two months the crew have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to further enhance the show and provide additional value to our listeners and web visitors.

As Walt Disney famously said, “I believe in being an innovator”, and in these times it is more important than ever to deliver timely, relevant and entertaining content to your podcast subscribers and site visitors, as many of us are becoming so time poor and oversaturated with unreverent information and content.

So that was the main objective of the Travelears crew over the past 8 weeks; to develop a podcast, web site and blog that would be a “one stop shop” for the Disney traveller wanting quality information about enjoying the Disney parks.

As part of the process, the Travelears decided to focus on what we were good at. We all agreed that there were already a number of people out there within the online Disney community that were expert Disney historians, Disney trivia experts, Disney music experts, Disney time and motion specialists and in depth Disney reporters that already had quality podcasts, websites and blogs.

These people are fantastic at what they do, and duplicating this effort would neither assist the needs of the online Disney community, nor provide any real help to the people that find Disney so overwhelming, that planning their visits to a Disney park often becomes a very stressful and time consuming ordeal.

 

Our listeners and site visitors have told us that they want and need a central repository of Disney information and one on one assistance with their planning trip planning needs.

So with our vision clearly outlined, the team developed the following objectives for the Travelears:

1) The provision of a “Question and Answer” service for pending travellers to the Disney Parks.

2) The provision of regular overviews of Disney attractions, shows, dining, accommodation and events at each of the Disney parks with a regular focus on Walt Disney World and Disneyland

3) The provision of up to date travel information on issues affecting travel to the parks including predicted crowds, attraction closures and rehabs and special events.

4) The provision of breaking Disney news via a dedicated news team searching out relevant information for travellers visiting the Disney parks.

5) Through partnering with one of the United States premier Disney travel agencies, we will provide our listeners and site visitor’s access to the latest travel discounts, package deals and travel advice for domestic and international travellers.

6) Recommendations for other sources of Disney information including Disney Podcasts, Disney Newsletters, Disney Web Sites, Disney Blogs, Disney DVD’s and Disney Books.

To make this happen, we quickly realised that we had to expand the existing crew to ensure that we could provide quality Disney content on a consistent basis. We wanted people that loved Disney, understood the importance of the online Disney community and had a burning passion to assist fellow Disney travellers to enjoy their vacations and find the best Disney discounts and information.

We are pleased to announce that the new Travelears Crew consists of:
