A Port Canaveral cruise terminal was evacuated briefly Thursday after a fire alarm went off, leading to a brief bomb scare.
Terminal 8, home to the Disney Magic and Wonder, was evacuated about 12:10 p.m. after the alarm rang, said Brevard sheriff’s Maj. Greg Purden. Disney dogs trained in bomb-sniffing swept the parking lot and alerted on a van. The sheriff’s bomb squad determined that the owner had stored fertilizer in a plastic bin; fertilizer can be used to make explosives but in this case was not dangerous, authorities said.
The evacuation lasted about 20 minutes and did not interfere with the sailing of the Wonder, which left on time, said Christi Erwin Donnan, a spokeswoman for Disney Cruise Line. The Port fire department determined there was no fire in the terminal.
