Hello, welcome to a special D23 edition of the podcast.

The dust is finally starting to settle after the initial D23 announcement and the membership packs are hitting the streets

With feelings still mixed within the online community, the Travelears crew thought  that  it was timely to discuss our own personal decisions whether to become charter members of D23 and our opinions on the value of the membership packages.

If you are not a member yet, don’t forget to check out our D23 blogs for the membership details and photo’s of the inclusions at: www.thetravelears.com .

Enjoy the show and our regular WDW travel show will be released on Thursday.

Aj, Chris, Greg, Ray, Ryan, Will and Shannon

I have to say, really enjoyed the episode. I got my membership card in the mail today; waiting to see the lithograph and the rest of the membership kit. I was on board with a lot of the opinions on the episode… until Shannon voiced that this was not for the casual Disney fan, and Greg seconded.

To me, the viewpoint stated as “someone who only goes once a year or so” shows that thinking is very Theme Park-centric. What’s being forgotten is the inserts in EVERY Disney Blu-ray and DVD release. A flyer in every Disney hotel room; on every Disney cruise ship, at the brochure stand with the park maps at every Disney resort lobby. Likely there will soon be a D23 piece on the Disney Travel OnDemand. The Disney Store has a flyer. On Disney.com there’s a small ad on the “For Fans” link. On Disneyshopping.com there’s an ad for the D23 boutique. Likely on iTunes I’ve heard rumors of a D23 podcast (I think on MiceCast), so if you search Disney in iTunes D23 will pop up. Think of all the books, music, movies, plush, furniture, clothing, etc… everything gets a D23 flyer included in the bag, or printed on the receipt. Printed on the playbill for Mary Poppins or The Little Mermaid on Broadway.

I think you see my point.

I have heard a lot of disappointment about an apparent lack of park-centric content… if what AJ and I think is right, you’ll be gorged on Imagineering stories as DCA’s renovation progresses.

In short, I think Disney’s appeal is far broader that what was given credit for, with the “one trip a year” thinking.

So, once again, thanks for the show, love it, disagree completely that this is only for the rabid DF websurfer online community members… like us!
